We were instructed to apply for permission to build a medium sized residential development in the rear car park of a commercial unit in Harrow and Wealdstone.

The car park is narrow and was to be flanked by residential apartments on each side. The design consequently had to respect the daylight and sunlight to these apartments and their privacy. We developed a scheme with the architects that successfully navigated these challenges and planning permission was obtained. The car park was designated as industrial land and we made a successful case that the clients should be permitted to build a mixed use development notwithstanding that the existing land use was protected by local policy and the London Plan. The scheme was reported in the Architects’ Journal.
